My

impressions
over the last two days

very
briefly are that anyone who feels that we do not live in one of the most exciting periods in
human history,
hasn't been paying attention.

The,
I heard five or six things over the past few days in terms of technology innovations.

that on
own each one of them

could
transform the trejectory of human civilization.

They'll
probably some of them will actually play out and also we have no way of predicting how they will
impact
each other and that's just from what we heard here today.

There
are hundreds if not thousands of top notch potentially civilizationally
transforming

technology
innovations that are being worked on out there. Many by our existing members by
definition
have been embedded by their peers through the awards process. But this was just a bit over two days
of
a slice of that slice of what's happening out there. I hope you agree with me about this moment in
history. Having said that

the,
as we've heard also a number of times, they're impediments out there to innovation.

G
reat innovations don't just get adopted.

They don't
have ripple effects unless they go beyond the lab or beyond the prototype or
beyond the really
exciting dream.

That's where
reality intrudes but again the history of innovators is that most of them don't
give
up the first, second, or third time but keep butting their heads up against the brick wall until they
break
through. They may end up dead on the other side out of exhaustion and pain but they
do
breakthrough and that's why they call this process blood sweat and tears.
Everyone who
presented wasn't bleeding on stage, wasn't crying on stage and almost all the
presenters
weren't sweating on stage. But I can guarantee you that all of them have gone through
an
incredible amount to get where they are today and are going to go through an incredible amount
to
push forward in the face of the resistance that is the a, truly I suppose,
one can describe as the human condition.

Having
said that,

This
evening we're going to celebrate.

these innovators
and some spectacular innovations in a way that, even though it is my job and my daily
experience
to be exposed to all these things, and even though

I'm the host of the
event tonight, every year I've been at the awards, I find I actually get
goose bumps
in the presence of the potential. Music playing.
