Now we're going to hear from John McGrath Senior
Director of Fast Search and transfer. Search is something that is extremely dear to my heart
as a journalist and I think to everyone in the room. I'm not quite sure how I lived without search.

Now that I have it, I look forward to hear what's on the horizon for search. Thank you Amanda. There's
a couple of things I'd like to leave you with and hopefully get a chance to talk to more of you this afternoon and
at the gala. Search is near and dear to my heart as well, having been in the business for about twenty years and as
Bob said going through the first generation of applied search for many of the different web emissions initiatives
that have taken place. At home I to have a file drawer full of paper certificates of technologies and
companies that have past. Basically teaching us all how to officially and effectively use search in our daily lives
both live in terms of business as well as a personal.
How many people in here have never heard of Fast, Search and transfer?
I'm not surprised that there's a number of you that have not heard of us but I can pretty much assure you that we've
probably touched your lives in one way, shape or form. We're one of the fastest growing search engine
companies that addresses the needs of the enterprise from the standpoint of e-Commerce,
acknowledge enablement and the application enablement and we've been recognize in recent history by many of
industry analysts who monitor this space in terms of how well our company is both innovated and
executed.
Most recently the Gardner report, which I think many of you may have heard of, it's an analysis
organization that monitors software in the enterprise space, has rated us extremely highly both in terms of
our vision and the capabilities that our company offers as well as our ability to execute and actually implement
systems. And part of what's happened in the search space obviously is the ability of companies to
understand the requirements for search and our abilities to actually implement them.
Our company has grown at an extremely rapid rate well over fifty percent year-over-year
both in terms of our capital appreciation in terms of our multiple and also in terms of our growth in people.
One of the things that helps drive our innovation is the fact that a third of our company are engineers.
We have over 50 PHDs in our organization. We're a company that originally started in Norway. And there's a very
deep cultural
Driven
We're very deeply culturely driven in terms of both innovation and education, are involved in the university space
as well as in the enterprise space.
And part of that is based on vision, integrity, and our passion for technology.
Now some of the innovation that takes place, one of the things which we addressed in last panel session, was this whole evolution
of how content is being created and driven through the media. This affects companies like
ourselves. One of the innovations that has been coming or being requested of us from our customers is
how to deal with this issue, repretention Management. And we actually recently released technology that deals with
analyzing content, not only based on its contextual value but also based on its aise the sentiment and we're
working with a number of partners and companies in terms of that evaluating what's going on
within the market within the media space, within the blogs, and determining how to best
react and to manage the reputation. In terms of our working with individuals like yourselves, and with other companies
we have a very aggressive partner program that deals both at the enterprise
level and also at the university level and more recently
we've started to even work at the venture level. And we feel it is important is find those players in
the market space that are actually game changers. People who have brilliant ideas. Who know
how to apply search technology.
and can make the most of it. And one of the reasons I've been brought on board with Fast is I was, my experience in the venture capital business
and what we're actually doing is driving early stage involvement where we can actually improve the
time to market of the products, lower the risk of those people who are investing in the development of those products
and doing it at a lower expense. So, I'm very interested in talking to those of you who have ideas with regard
to search and I look forward to the

the places where we actually are where you more than likely have touched. It is in the e-Commerce space
We actually host and manage IBM.com, dell.com, norstrom.com, many of the major
e-business sites that are on the web. In the knowledge enablement space, if you ever used lexus nexus, we're their
total search engine, technology under the covers. We also are the search engine involved with Activa.
So there are a number of areas where more than likely you've been, you used our search engines to
navigate or find information once you've to to their location. And we will continue to keep
growing our technologies and adding new and innovative capabilities
and look forward to the opportunity to talk to you about those possibilities and hopefully we can work
together.
