What is your corporation most trying to accomplish with its new innovation?

We are very interested in everything flying, particularly helicopters and we are trying to use new technology to develop new and unique flying products.

What do you think sets your corporation’s work apart from the work of others in your field?

We have challenged “known facts” and combined that with creative and simple solutions to complex problems. We are very multidisciplinary and have a strong focus on system engineering. Through this we have been able to develop the world’s first real passively stable indoor helicopter as well as the world’s first operational Nano UAV system.

What or who inspired your corporation to come up with this innovation?

One day, as a little kid, I [Petter Muren, CTO and Founder] was sitting at my desk doing my homework when my thoughts started to drift - I was imaging a small helicopter floating in the air in front of me, totally stable and almost silent. More than 40 years ago this was pure science fiction but this dream has followed me and inspired me to develop small, silent and easily maneuverable aircrafts.

What role has serendipity played in the turning points in your corporation’s mission?

Serendipity is probably important in every scientists and entrepreneurs career. Looking back at my own career there has been many times where serendipity has played a role in important decisions. I believe, however, that the better you prepare and the more dedicated you are about something the more likely it is that you come up with new and innovative ideas or take the right decisions about where to go in your career.

What have been the greatest challenges that your corporation has encountered in developing your innovation?

There obviously have been a lot of very challenging technical problems that had to find it’s solution, but the greatest challenge is probably to find a balance between the enormous number of work hours required to build a career and a business, and having a family life. While spending evenings and holidays on my (by that time) hobby, I do not know how many times I have told my wife: “Just wait and see, one day I will be able to make a living out of my childhood dream”. Luckily my family remained patient until I did.

Do you believe leaders and innovators have certain qualities that they all share? If so, what?

Dedication and obsession (combined with hard work).

How would your corporation most like to change the world through its work?

I hope and envision that the products we develop and sell now can be used to make the world a safer place.
